Borderline Personality Disorder
and associated mental health issues
People who are referred to Pele Tower usually have a diagnosis or experience symptoms and behaviours associated with Borderline Personality Disorder. Associated mental health problems include depression, eating disorders and frequent self-harm. Sexual, emotional and physical abuses in childhood have frequently been experienced.
Presenting issues include:
- Self-harming behaviours such as cutting or overdosing
- Emotional instability
- Difficulty in forming and maintaining close relationships
- Chaotic and impulsive lifetsyle
- Transient psychosis
- Eating disorders
- Unstable living conditions or poor housing history
Referrals can be received from any source although they generally come from health and social care professionals, particularly psychiatrists, CPNs and social workers.
